"I honestly can’t recommend this fjord cruise enough - it was absolutely spectacular! From start to finish, the experience felt magical. The views were beyond anything I’ve ever seen: dramatic cliffs, stunning waterfalls, and perfectly calm, crystal-clear water. It felt like being inside a postcard. The boat itself was very comfortable, and there were plenty of great spots to take in the scenery and snap photos. The crew were fantastic - super friendly, well-organized, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Their commentary made the whole journey even more interesting. What really made this trip special was the atmosphere. It was so awe-inspiring, just being surrounded by such raw, untouched nature. I didn’t want it to end! If you’re even thinking about doing a fjord cruise - do it. It’s 100% worth it and easily one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had!"

How the Bergen Fjord Cruise to Mostraumen Works
Four steps from Zachariasbryggen quay to the Mostraumen waterfall and back.
Meet at Zachariasbryggen Quay
Find the Rødne Fjord Cruise boat at the Zachariasbryggen quay beside Bergen's Fish Market (Torget 2). Check in 15 minutes before departure — boarding is straight from the wharf.
Sail Past Bryggen
Cast off into Byfjorden and glide past the painted wooden warehouses of Bryggen — Bergen's UNESCO World Heritage wharf. The audio guide explains the Hanseatic League history as the city skyline recedes.
Into the Osterfjord
Watch the mountains rise as the boat enters the Osterfjord. Step out onto the sun deck for cliffside waterfalls, or stay in the warm cabin with cafe service. Keep a lookout for sea eagles circling the shore.
Through Mostraumen & Back
The captain threads the narrow Mostraumen strait against its powerful currents, then noses the bow close enough to a waterfall to feel the spray. Return sail back to Bergen — 3.5 hours total, rain or shine.

"Absolutely loved this trip to Mostraumen, the boat and staff were first class as was the comfort inside the boat. Outside on the deck was freezing so wrap up warm but definitely try it as it’s so worth it for the scenery …. absolutely beautiful and completely blew us away, the commentary and music that accompanied the dramatic surroundings was perfect! I would wholeheartedly recommend this trip and would definitely use the company again. Thank you for a fantastic few hours!"

"We booked this last minute as we wasn’t actually sure what to do during our stay. It was fabulous. So glad we did it. The views were stunning and the boat was brilliant, had everything you needed, from snacks to hot drinks and very reasonable priced. Top deck got a little busy but I expected that would happen, my favourite spot was bottom deck at the back, sheltered from the rain and still seen everything on passing. It’s worth a visit."

"The boat is very comfortable and the views are stunning. We would highly recommend! We would strongly advise you wrap up warm and take a waterproof!"
"The fjord cruise was our highlight of Bergen. The boat was lovely and comfortable, clean, big windows and easy access to the decks. There is a cafe on board aswell as toilets. The guide was informative and the photo stops were an added bonus."

"Excelente! Embarcação limpa e organizada. Paisagens deslumbrantes, e quando chega perto, toca clássica para melhorar a imersão. Recomendo."

"I was imagining a sedate meander through the fjords, but instead it was an exhilarating powerful ride, especially standing outside at the front to embrace the beautiful views, the pretty remote villages, the waterfalls and the power and speed of the boat. fantastic."

Bergen Fjord Cruise — FAQ
Everything you need to know before booking your Bergen fjord cruise to Mostraumen.
The original Mostraumen fjord cruise from Bergen starts from $96 per person. The price includes the 3.5-hour roundtrip sail, audio guide, spacious cabin, and sun deck access. Food and drinks are extra and can be bought from the on-board kiosk.
The roundtrip cruise lasts 3.5 hours from the Zachariasbryggen quay out through the Osterfjord, past the Mostraumen strait and waterfall, and back to Bergen's Fish Market. That makes it a half-day fjord cruise from Bergen — easy to combine with a city walk or a Bryggen visit on the same day.
Departures are from the Zachariasbryggen quay next to the Fish Market at Torget 2, 5014 Bergen. Walking distance from Bryggen, the Fløibanen funicular, and the city center — no transfer needed. Look for the Rødne Fjord Cruise boat at the wharf.
Mostraumen is a narrow tidal strait at the head of the Osterfjord where strong currents squeeze between steep cliffs. On this cruise the captain threads the boat through the strait and pulls alongside a waterfall close enough to feel the spray — the scenic climax of the trip.
Rated 4.7/5 by 8,769 verified guests and flagged as a Best Seller and Likely to Sell Out, the original Mostraumen cruise is consistently Bergen's highest-rated short fjord cruise. For a deeper UNESCO Nærøyfjord or Flåm experience see our comparison section — but for a half-day sail, this is the top-rated option.
Your ticket includes the round-trip fjord cruise, an on-board audio guide, access to the spacious indoor cabin, and the open sun deck. Food and drinks aren't included but are available for purchase from the kiosk — locally baked treats, hot drinks, and snacks.
Norwegian fjord weather is cool and changeable — dress in layers and bring a waterproof jacket. Even in summer the wind on the sun deck can be chilly, and at the waterfall you may feel spray. Comfortable walking shoes are fine; the boat has a warm cabin if the weather turns.
Yes — the fjords are open all year and the cruise runs rain or shine. On the coldest days there may be ice in the fjord, and the captain may choose an alternative route that still delivers the same dramatic mountain scenery in winter light. Winter sailings are quieter and often more atmospheric.
Yes — children are welcome and dogs are allowed on board (maximum three dogs per sailing). The warm cabin, sun deck, and relatively short 3.5-hour runtime make this one of the more family-friendly fjord cruises from Bergen.
The Mostraumen cruise itself is a Bergen-only trip. To combine Bergen with Flåm, Nærøyfjord, or the Flåm Railway, see our comparison section — there are full-day tours departing Bergen that package the fjord cruise with the Flåm Railway, Stegastein viewpoint, and UNESCO Nærøyfjord in a single day.
The Mostraumen cruise is flagged as Likely to Sell Out, especially in peak summer and around cruise-ship arrival days. Book at least 2–3 days ahead in shoulder season and a week or more in July–August. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure makes early booking risk-free.
With a 4.7/5 rating from 8,769 guests and Best Seller status, the original Mostraumen cruise consistently ranks as the top short fjord cruise from Bergen. For $96 you get 3.5 hours through two fjords, a waterfall approach, the Mostraumen strait, and Bryggen views on the way out — most guests call it the highlight of their Bergen trip.
